Keys we copy, and when we check first

Most door keys can be copied from a working original:

  • flat and house keys for standard cylinders;
  • keys for steel flat doors, once we have seen the profile;
  • keys for the building entrance and shared areas such as the pool gate or a storage room.

Some keys come with a security card or have a protected profile, and copies may need that card or the manufacturer. Send a photo of both sides of the key on WhatsApp and we will tell you whether we can copy it.

A good copy needs a good original

A worn original makes a worn copy. If your key is bent, cracked or its teeth have rounded off, mention it: a copy of a key that already sticks will stick too, and a new cylinder with fresh keys can be the more sensible fix.

The price depends on the type of key and how many copies you need, and you hear it before we cut. Once the copies are made, try each one in the lock before you rely on it, and let us know if one catches.

If a key was lost together with something showing your address, a copy of the remaining key gets you back to normal but leaves the lost one working. In that case, change the cylinder instead.

Key cutting: questions

Can you cut a key without the original?

No. A copy is made from an existing key. If every key is gone, the door has to be opened and the cylinder replaced, and the new cylinder comes with new keys.

Can you copy the key for the building entrance or the pool gate?

Usually, if it is an ordinary mechanical key rather than an electronic fob or card. Some complexes hand out entrance keys only through the management office, so it is worth asking them first.

My spare key is hard to turn. Why?

A copy made from another copy drifts a little further from the original each time. Cut new spares from the original key where you can; if the cylinder itself is worn, replacing it may be the better fix.

Do you cut car keys?

No. We work only on building doors: flats, houses, entrances and shops. For a car key, please contact a car key specialist.
