Which kind of lockout is it?

Pulled shut, key inside

The easiest case. If the door only latched and was not locked with the key, it can often be opened without leaving a mark. Self-closing aparthotel doors catch people out all the time: you take the rubbish out and the door clicks shut.

Locked with the key, key lost

Here we have to work on the cylinder itself. If it gets damaged in the process, we fit a new one, but only with your agreement.

Key snapped or stuck

Do not push a broken piece further in with a wire or a screwdriver; it usually has to come out first. Damaged pins mean a new cylinder. Near the sea, salt and damp can also clog a cylinder until the key stops catching.

Damage-free first, ID before we open

Damage-free opening means working through the lock’s own mechanism rather than drilling or forcing the door. When the lock is sound it often works. When it is not, because the cylinder is broken or the door has already been forced, we stop, explain the options and the price, and do nothing you have not agreed to.

Opening a locked door lets someone into a home, so every job starts with a check: a passport or ID plus a lease, a utility bill or an e-Devlet residence document; in a holiday let, your booking and a word with the host. If the papers are inside, we look at them once the door is open.

Door opening: questions

Will my lock still work after you open the door?

If the door opens without damage, yes: the lock and cylinder stay as they were and your key still fits. If the cylinder has to come out, we stop and tell you first, with the price; we fit a new one only with your OK and hand you the new keys.

Can you open steel doors?

Yes. Steel flat doors in gated complexes usually lock at several points, so they take longer than wooden ones. If the door was only pulled shut, it can often be opened without damage; one locked with the key may need cylinder work.

I tried to open it myself and made it worse. Will you still come?

Of course. Just tell us what was tried (a card, a wire or a screwdriver) so we know which parts may be needed. Please do not try anything else until we arrive.

I lost my keys. Is opening the door enough?

It gets you in, but it does not make the door secure. If anything showing your address went missing with the keys, have the cylinder replaced afterwards so the lost key no longer works. If the lock itself is worn too, a lock change is the better choice.
